Adventure Creation Quickstart Guide

Note: this guide is a basic tutorial to get you started, and does not cover all available features

Welcome to the Adventure creation quickstart guide! If you're hoping to get your feet wet learning how to create an Adventure, you've come to the right place. Following the 10 steps below, you'll have a simple Adventure up and running in no time!

While we aren't going to cover any particularly advanced mechanics in this guide, we'll cover more than enough to get you on your way making Adventures on par with the Quest for the Icy Soul roleplay event.

Step 3: Starting Point

Before we set up the structure for this Adventure, we’re going to do a little bit of housekeeping. First, we’re going to set up the ‘Start’ command, and then we’re going to rename the first node.

3.1: Setting up the Start command

When players embark on an Adventure, the ‘Start’ command is run. Some complicated Adventures may use this to set up some initial state, but most Adventures simply use it to post the introductory forum post and move the Adventure into the first node.

Instructions

  • In the sidebar to the right, find the “Global Commands” list and click on “⛭ [1] Start”
  • Make sure ‘Destination Node’ is set to Beginning
  • Paste the following into ‘Post Text’:

A persistent pain between two of your ribs is what eventually brings you to wakefulness. You were passed out on a rather pointed rock. Sitting up, you feel your muscles complain. How long were you out?

In the low light of luminescent mushrooms, your surroundings come into focus. Grey stone walls loom on all four sides. They are rough, but look like they have been worked some so that they fit together tightly. There is one doorway. Unfortunately, a door made of steel bars prevents you from exiting.
  • Click ‘Save’

3.2: Renaming the first node

The first node is simply called “Beginning”. This isn’t very interesting, nor is it descriptive, so we’ll rename it to “Stone Cell”.

Instructions

  • In the sidebar to the right, find the “Nodes” list and click on “[1] Beginning”
  • Under ‘Rename Node’, fill in Stone Cell
  • Click ‘Save’, and notice that the node’s name has changed in the sidebar

Congratulations, you’ve defined your first command! Don’t worry, we’ll cover some more interesting use cases shortly.

When you’re ready, head on over to Step 4: Structure.
